I have seen two such sights, by sea and by land!
But I am not to say it is a sea, for it is now the
sky: Betwixt the firmament and it you cannot thrust
a bodkin's point.

Whoa! Late-breaking addition. Did you know about the Vampire Squid? How did I miss knowing about this completely awesome animal? It lives in the completely dark deep sea, is the only relative left of a prehistoric phylum, has sharp spines on its mantle that it uses to cover itself when threatened, and has bioluminescence! Plus which, like all cephlopods, it's intensely, awe-inspiringly graceful.
Here's a couple of videos: the BBC one is in English, but the Japanese one has more beautiful images.
oh my gosh have you been watching the planet earth documentary, too? do vampire squid feed off the ink of other squids? did that whole underwater portion of the show make you want to never eat seafood again?
